Beloved’ East Bay teacher identified as victim in fatal Downtown Oakland shooting



Wednesday, March 11, 2026-A beloved East Bay teacher has been identified as one of the victims in a deadly shooting that took place at a downtown Oakland bar early Saturday morning. Latetia Bobo, 33, an eighth-grade English language arts teacher at Caliber: Beta Academy in San Pablo, was killed during the incident at EZ’s Lounge. The tragic shooting unfolded around 3:30 a.m., leaving two people dead and several others injured.

According to authorities, a total of seven people were struck by gunfire inside the bar. Bobo died at the scene, while another victim, 25-year-old Markise Martin, later died at a hospital. Five additional victims were injured but are expected to survive. Police responded to emergency calls shortly after the shooting and recovered multiple firearms at the scene while detaining several individuals for questioning as the investigation continues.

Bobo is being remembered by students, parents, and colleagues as a passionate educator who deeply cared about her community. In a statement, Caliber Public Schools described her as someone who supported students, connected with families, and brought compassion and dedication to her work every day. The school community has since mourned her loss, calling her an extraordinary teacher whose impact on students will not be forgotten.
