Monday, February 9, 2026- A deadly drone strike by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has killed at least 24 people, including eight children and two infants, in central Sudan as they fled violence in the country’s ongoing conflict, a medical group reports. The attack struck a vehicle carrying displaced families near Rahad in North Kordofan province, according to the Sudan Doctors Network, which monitors health conditions amid the war. The families were escaping fighting in the Dubeiker area when the strike occurred, and several others were wounded and rushed to Rahad for treatment amid severe shortages of medical supplies and humanitarian aid.
This assault came just a day after a separate drone attack hit a World Food Programme aid convoy in the same region, killing at least one person and destroying food supplies intended for displaced communities. Humanitarian agencies and rights groups have denounced the strikes as blatant violations of international humanitarian law and are calling for urgent action to protect civilians and ensure safe delivery of aid. The Sudan Doctors Network described the targeting of fleeing families as a “massacre” and urged global accountability for those responsible.
Sudan’s conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces, which erupted in April 2023, has created one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises, displacing millions and leaving vast regions without adequate healthcare or basic services. Attacks on civilians and aid operations have intensified in recent months, compounding the suffering of families already forced from their homes by violence and food insecurity. International pressure is mounting for stronger protections for noncombatants amid a war that shows no immediate signs of abating.
