‘No reason he should have died’: ALEX PRETTI’s parents open up

Thursday, February  12, 2026-The parents of Alex Pretti, the 37‑year‑old intensive care nurse shot and killed by federal agents during an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis, have spoken publicly for the first time, saying bluntly that “there was no reason he should have died that day.”

Michael and Susan Pretti described their son as a compassionate caregiver with a deep commitment to helping others, and they reject government claims that he posed a threat when Border Patrol officers shot him multiple times on January 24, 2026. Video evidence shared by the family shows him unarmed and attempting to assist a woman during the confrontation.

The couple framed their grief with fury at what they call misleading narratives from federal officials, including assertions by the Trump administration that Pretti acted violently or intended harm. They emphasized that his last actions were consistent with his character: trying to help someone in distress.

Multiple bystander videos reportedly show Pretti never raising his legally carried handgun and being pepper‑sprayed and tackled before he was fatally shot, prompting his family to demand accountability and full transparency in the ongoing investigations.

Pretti’s death has intensified national debate over the use of lethal force by federal law enforcement during protests and immigration crackdowns. Outrage in Minneapolis has included protests, calls from state leadership to remove thousands of federal agents, and a federal civil rights probe now led by the FBI.

As the Prettis prepare for a private memorial and continue to push for truth and accountability, their public statements underscore widespread concern about excessive force and the treatment of U.S. citizens during enforcement operations.
