Monday, February 9, 2026- Mecklenburg County Public Health has issued an urgent public health warning after identifying potential measles exposure at two locations in south Charlotte late last month. Health officials say anyone who visited Vista Auction on Sardis Road on January 29–30 between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m., and Lidl on Monroe Road on January 30 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. should be aware of possible exposure to the highly contagious virus. While neither business was the source of the infection and both locations are currently considered safe, the alert highlights how quickly measles can spread in public spaces.
Measles is an airborne virus that can infect up to nine out of ten people who are not immune, making this warning especially serious for those who are unvaccinated or immunocompromised. Residents are being urged to monitor for symptoms — including high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and rash — for up to 21 days after possible exposure. Health officials stress that people who have received the recommended MMR vaccination are far less likely to become infected, though vigilance is still advised.
The warning comes as measles cases continue to circulate in the Carolinas, with Mecklenburg County confirming multiple infections and nearby regions reporting additional outbreaks. Public health teams are actively tracing contacts, notifying potentially exposed individuals, and working to limit further spread. Officials say the situation underscores the importance of vaccination, rapid reporting, and public awareness to protect the wider community from a preventable disease.
