FBI describes NANCY GUTHRIE case suspect, backpack as sheriff asks locals for video

Monday, February  16, 2026-The search for missing 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of television host Savannah Guthrie, has entered its third week with national law enforcement intensifying efforts. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released a detailed description of a suspect seen on surveillance footage from Guthrie’s home in Tucson: a male approximately 5′9″ to 5′10″ tall with an average build, captured early on the morning she vanished wearing a distinctive black backpack.

Authorities have also raised the reward for information to $100,000 and have obtained DNA evidence from the scene that does not match Guthrie or anyone close to her — underscoring the urgency of identifying the individual or uncovering new leads.

Investigators are asking residents and businesses within a two-mile radius of Guthrie’s home to review and submit any security camera footage from the critical time window surrounding her disappearance.

The request is part of a broader effort by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department to reconstruct movements and identify potential sightings of the suspect before and after Guthrie went missing. In addition to the video appeal, recovered gloves — one reportedly found miles from the property and possibly matching those worn by the suspect — are undergoing forensic analysis as authorities continue reviewing thousands of public tips.

With no arrests announced, concern continues to mount among the public and Guthrie’s family. Savannah Guthrie and relatives have issued emotional appeals urging anyone with information to step forward. Law enforcement agencies remain active in the Catalina Foothills area, expanding their search efforts and examining incoming evidence as the investigation remains urgent and ongoing.
