60% disapprove of TRUMP ahead of State of the Union, Post-ABC-Ipsos poll finds

Monday, February 23, 2026-A new Post‑ABC‑Ipsos poll conducted Feb. 12‑17, 2026, shows that 60% of Americans disapprove of President Donald Trump’s overall job performance, compared with 39% who say they approve.

About 47% of respondents strongly disapprove, marking the highest negative rating he’s seen since the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack aftermath.

The president’s approval rating stands at 39%, reflecting broad dissatisfaction across several major policy areas, including the economy, inflation, tariffs, and U.S. relations with other countries. On specific issues, Trump’s handling of inflation drew particularly poor marks, with just around a third of Americans approving and most disapproving.

The poll also highlights broader concerns about presidential power and decision‑making: a large majority feel Trump has overstepped his authority, and many believe he is using his position for personal gain. Republican voters remain more supportive, though enthusiasm shows signs of strain compared with earlier in his term.

Democrats continue to face challenges in persuading voters that their policies offer a compelling alternative, leaving the broader political environment competitive as the president heads into his State of the Union address and the pivotal 2026 midterm elections.
