Venezuela’s MACHADO praises TRUMP in Fox News interview

Wednesday, January 7, 2026- Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado used a high-profile Fox News interview to lavish praise on President Donald Trump for his role in the recent ousting and capture of Nicolás Maduro, describing the operation as a historic milestone toward freedom and justice.

Machado, a 2025 Nobel Peace Prize recipient, told host Sean Hannity that she had previously dedicated her peace prize to Trump and reiterated her belief that his actions on January 3 will be remembered as the day “justice defeated tyranny,” calling them a “huge step for humanity, for freedom and human dignity.” She emphasized that many Venezuelans are grateful for what she termed Trump’s “courageous vision and historical actions” against the Maduro regime.

During the interview, Machado said she has not spoken with Trump since October 2025, when the Nobel Prize was announced, but made clear her admiration for his efforts and her desire to personally thank him. She even floated the idea of sharing her Nobel Peace Prize with him on behalf of the Venezuelan people, framing it as both a gesture of gratitude and recognition of his perceived role in advancing their cause.

Machado also called for new elections in Venezuela, asserting that her movement would win decisively in free and fair polls, even as Trump has publicly signaled support for interim leadership over immediate elections.

Machado’s comments underline the complex and evolving dynamics between Venezuelan opposition figures and U.S. policymakers in the wake of intense political upheaval. While her praise highlights support among some Venezuelan leaders for Trump’s intervention, it also illustrates ongoing political uncertainty in Venezuela’s transition, with Machado positioning herself as a key voice for democratic change even as Washington’s strategy remains ambiguous.
