TRUMP threatens action if Iran kills peaceful protestors

Friday, January 2, 2026- President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran amid growing unrest, saying the United States would intervene if Iranian authorities “shoot or violently kill peaceful protesters.”

In a message on his social media platform, Trump stated that if Iran uses lethal force against demonstrators, “the United States of America will come to their rescue” and declared that the U.S. is “locked and loaded and ready to go.” His remarks come as nationwide demonstrations in Iran — sparked by economic hardship and a steep decline in the rial — have turned deadly, with at least six to seven people reported killed so far.

The protests began as strikes and marches against rising living costs and inflation but have since spread into larger anti‑government demonstrations across multiple cities. Trump’s warning of potential U.S. intervention marks a significant escalation in rhetoric, coupling pressure on Tehran’s leadership with broader geopolitical tensions. He did not provide details on what form any intervention might take but underscored a readiness to act if peaceful protesters are killed.

Iran’s leadership has responded with sharp criticism, warning that any U.S. interference would destabilize the region and cross a “red line.” Senior Iranian officials have rejected the threat as foreign meddling in internal affairs, urging caution and signaling possible consequences for U.S. military forces in the region if intervention is pursued. The exchange highlights rising tensions between the two nations amid one of the largest waves of civil unrest in Iran in recent years.
