TIMOTHY BUSFIELD sexual misconduct allegations mount as wife MELISSA GILBERT express support

Sunday, January 18, 2026- Emmy-winning actor and director Timothy Busfield is facing mounting child sexual abuse charges in New Mexico linked to alleged incidents involving two 11-year-old twin boys on the set of the television series The Cleaning Lady

Busfield surrendered to authorities earlier this month and is currently being held without bond as he awaits a pretrial hearing scheduled for January 20. Prosecutors have charged him with two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and one count of child abuse, and additional claims from a separate alleged victim dating back years are also part of ongoing pretrial filings.

Amid the serious allegations, Busfield has publicly denied wrongdoing, and his defense team has filed legal motions challenging the state’s case, arguing a lack of credible evidence and asserting that some accusations may be tainted by other motives. Dozens of letters from colleagues and supporters have been submitted on his behalf, characterizing him as a compassionate and dedicated professional.

His wife, actress Melissa Gilbert, has taken a highly public and emotional role in the response, repeatedly expressing her support for him and advocating for his safety while in custody. Gilbert’s written letters to the judge describe Busfield as the moral and emotional center of their family and request that he receive protection while jailed. She has also been named as a potential defense witness in court documents.

Family members, including Gilbert’s mother, have similarly submitted personal letters in support of Busfield, underscoring the deep divisions and intense personal stakes surrounding the case.

The legal situation remains fluid, with both sides preparing arguments ahead of the upcoming detention hearing. Public attention continues to focus on how the allegations, defense strategies, and community responses will shape the proceedings moving forward.
