Thursday, January 8, 2026- Reality TV personality Spencer Pratt has officially announced his candidacy for mayor of Los Angeles, choosing the one-year anniversary of the devastating Palisades wildfire to launch his campaign. The fire, which ravaged parts of Pacific Palisades and destroyed Pratt’s own home, killed 12 people and wiped out thousands of structures, making the anniversary a focal point for criticism of city leadership.
Pratt declared his run at a “They Let Us Burn” rally, positioning his candidacy as a mission to shake up local politics and hold officials accountable for the disaster response.
Pratt, best known for his role on The Hills, has spent months sharply criticizing Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom over their handling of fire preparedness and recovery efforts.
At the rally, he vowed to “expose the system” and “disinfect” Los Angeles politics, tapping into widespread frustration among victims and residents still grappling with the aftermath of the blaze. He has also filed a lawsuit against the city and utility authorities, accusing them of mismanagement that contributed to the fire’s destruction.
While Pratt enters the race as a long-shot candidate, his announcement adds an unconventional twist to a competitive mayoral field that already includes incumbent Karen Bass and other challengers.
His campaign, rooted in wildfire accountability and government transparency, reflects broader voter concerns about crisis leadership as the primary election approaches in June 2026. Whether his celebrity status will translate into political traction remains uncertain, but his bid underscores the growing role of high-profile figures in local politics.
