School bus crash kills 1, injures 11 in Illinois



Saturday, January 17, 2026- A head-on collision between a school bus and a passenger car Thursday morning in suburban Manhattan, Illinois, resulted in the death of the car’s driver and left 11 others injured, according to authorities. The crash occurred around 8:17 a.m. near the intersection of Manhattan-Monee and Kankakee Roads as the bus was transporting students for Manhattan School District 114.

Emergency responders transported all 11 injured individuals including students and the bus driver to nearby hospitals for evaluation and treatment. Officials said none of the children suffered life-threatening injuries, but the severity of the crash prompted precautionary medical care and support for affected families.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Local law enforcement and Illinois State Police are investigating the cause of the collision, and the roadway remained closed for several hours as crews cleared debris and collected evidence.
