NEIL YOUNG trashes Amazon, gives his music to Greenland for free

Tuesday, January 27, 2026-Legendary musician Neil Young has taken a dramatic stand in the cultural and political spotlight by offering free access to his entire music catalog and film archive to residents of Greenland for at least one year.

Young, now 80, announced the gesture on his official blog as an act of “peace and love,” aimed at easing what he described as stress and threats experienced by Greenlanders under what he called an “unpopular and hopefully temporary government.” This unprecedented move comes as global attention has focused on geopolitical tensions involving the United States and Greenland’s strategic Arctic position.

Young’s decision also deepens his ongoing protest against Amazon. He reiterated that his music will never be available on Amazon Music “as long as it is owned by Jeff Bezos,” whom Young criticizes for his political support and influence. As a result, the free music offer for Greenlanders is contrasted sharply with his continued boycott of major tech‑driven music platforms tied to Amazon, urging fans and listeners to support independent and local music outlets instead.

The offer invites Greenland residents to access albums, live recordings, and films via the Neil Young Archives platform, normally available only through subscription. Young’s move is as much a cultural gift as it is a political statement reflecting his long history of using his music and public voice to challenge corporate and governmental power, and to foster solidarity through art.
