Sunday, January 25, 2026-Mexican authorities have arrested an alleged organized crime figure known as “El Botox” in the western state of Michoacán in connection with the killing of a prominent lime growers’ leader. Officials said the arrest followed a coordinated operation involving federal and state security forces targeting a criminal network accused of extortion and violence against agricultural producers in the region.
The suspect, identified as César Alejandro Sepúlveda Arellano, is accused of involvement in the October killing of Bernardo Bravo, a leader who had publicly denounced threats and extortion targeting lime growers. Authorities allege Sepúlveda led a criminal faction operating in Michoacán’s Tierra Caliente region, an area long plagued by cartel-linked violence and intimidation of farmers.
Prosecutors say the suspect faces charges including organized crime, homicide, and weapons offenses, and has been ordered held in custody at a maximum-security facility. Local officials described the arrest as a significant step toward curbing criminal control over agricultural production and restoring security for farming communities that have been under sustained pressure from criminal groups.
