Monday, January 26, 2026-A 28‑year‑old man was arrested at a private party hosted by the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, after he allegedly assaulted Florida Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost.
The incident unfolded late Friday night at the High West Distillery, where the suspect is accused of making racist remarks and punching Frost in the face after telling him President Donald Trump was going to deport him. Frost, the first Gen Z member of the U.S. Congress, later confirmed he was physically okay and thanked venue security and local police for their response.
Authorities say the assailant unlawfully entered the event after being denied entry, and also allegedly assaulted a female guest before he was detained by security and arrested by the Park City Police Department.
The suspect faces multiple charges, including aggravated burglary, assaulting an elected official, and simple assault, and has been booked into Summit County Jail. A judge ordered him held without bail, citing concerns about public safety and potential flight risk.
The violent encounter drew swift condemnation from political leaders and festival organizers. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called for aggressive prosecution and said hate and political violence have no place in the country. Sundance representatives stressed that the assault took place at a non‑festival‑affiliated event but reaffirmed their commitment to a safe and inclusive environment for all attendees.
