Wednesday, January 28, 2026-Across China, artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly moving from futuristic concept to everyday classroom subject as part of a national push to integrate AI education into the school system.
Starting this fall, students in many primary and middle schools especially in major cities like Beijing are required to take AI courses as part of their regular studies, with third graders learning basic concepts, fourth graders focusing on data and coding, and older students being introduced to intelligent systems and algorithms.
This shift reflects a broader strategy by China’s Ministry of Education to build AI literacy early and comprehensively across all grade levels, making it an expected part of the curriculum rather than an optional extra.
The curriculum is designed to be progressive and age‑appropriate, with fundamentals like voice recognition and image classification at the primary level, deeper logic and machine-learning concepts in junior high, and more practical, innovation-oriented work in senior secondary schools.
