Tuesday, January 6, 2026- Charlotte Niddam, a 15-year-old girl educated in the United Kingdom, has been confirmed among the 40 people killed in a devastating fire at a bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana during New Year’s celebrations.
Swiss authorities have now identified all victims of the blaze, which also left more than 100 people injured. Charlotte held joint British, French, and Israeli citizenship and had previously been a pupil at Immanuel College in Hertfordshire.
Her family announced her death in a public statement, expressing deep grief at the loss of their “beautiful daughter and sister.” Tributes have poured in from communities across the UK, France, and Switzerland, reflecting the widespread impact of the tragedy. Silent marches and memorials have been held in Crans-Montana as residents and visitors alike mourn those who lost their lives.
Investigators believe the fire may have been triggered by celebratory sparklers attached to champagne bottles, which ignited the venue’s ceiling. The incident has sparked criminal investigations into fire safety standards and possible negligence, with scrutiny focused on whether the venue had complied with inspection requirements. Authorities continue to examine how a night of celebration turned into one of Switzerland’s deadliest recent disasters.
