Monday, January 12, 2026- A devastating gas cylinder explosion in Islamabad, Pakistan, has killed at least eight people, including a newlywed bride and groom, just hours after their wedding celebrations ended. The blast occurred early Sunday at a home in the city’s G‑7/2 sector where guests and family members were sleeping following the wedding reception.
The force of the explosion was severe enough to collapse part of the house and damage several neighboring homes. Authorities believe the blast was caused by a gas leak, though a full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
Rescue teams worked through the debris to pull people from the wreckage, evacuating around 15 individuals who were trapped under rubble; dozens more were injured and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials said some of the injured remain in critical condition as medical staff continue care. The explosion not only claimed the lives of the bride and groom but also several relatives and neighbors who were staying at the house during the festivities.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister and senior leaders expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss, offering condolences to the families and directing a thorough inquiry into the incident. The widespread use of liquefied petroleum gas cylinders in Pakistani homes, particularly in winter months, has been linked to similar fatal accidents, prompting renewed calls for improved safety standards and public awareness to prevent future tragedies.
