Saturday, January 10, 2026- Emmy Award-winning actor and director Timothy Busfield is facing serious legal trouble after authorities in Albuquerque, New Mexico, issued an arrest warrant charging him with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and child abuse.
The charges stem from a criminal complaint alleging that a child reported inappropriate touching by Busfield while he was on the set of the television series The Cleaning Lady, which he both directed and appeared in. The alleged incidents reportedly occurred multiple times between late 2022 and spring 2024.
The complaint details that the child was as young as seven years old during some of the alleged incidents. The child’s mother reported the abuse to Child Protective Services, and a social worker documented that the child has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety, including recurring nightmares linked to the alleged conduct. According to reports, the child initially hesitated to disclose the abuse due to Busfield’s position of authority on the production.
The investigation began in late 2024 after medical personnel at the University of New Mexico Hospital alerted law enforcement, prompting a police probe that led to the arrest warrant. Warner Bros., the production company behind The Cleaning Lady, conducted an internal review but did not corroborate the abuse allegations.
Busfield has not publicly responded to the charges, and his attorney and agent did not immediately comment. Known for roles in The West Wing, Field of Dreams, and Thirtysomething, Busfield’s career and public reputation now face intense scrutiny as the case proceeds through the legal system.
