Vanity Fair and OLIVIA NUZZI part ways

Saturday, December 6, 2025 -
The high‑profile relationship between Vanity Fair and Olivia Nuzzi has officially ended. The magazine announced that it will not renew her contract — which is set to expire at the end of the year — describing the decision as mutual and “in the best interest of the magazine.” Nuzzi had joined Vanity Fair in September 2025 as West Coast Editor, following her earlier departure from New York Magazine.

The split comes amid renewed scrutiny over Nuzzi’s past personal and professional conduct. Her 2025 memoir, American Canto — which referenced a previously undisclosed relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a former subject she covered — sparked controversy and prompted fresh allegations. Among those, her former fiancé, journalist Ryan Lizza, published accusations that expanded the claims to include other public figures and alleged journalistic‑ethics violations.

With the contract non‑renewal, Vanity Fair appears to be distancing itself from the scandal and any associated reputational risk. For Nuzzi, this marks another abrupt halt — following her exit from New York Magazine — and raises serious questions about her future in mainstream media. Many inside and outside the industry are watching closely to see if she pivots to independent journalism, authorship, or attempts another comeback.
