U.S. to build "TRUMP-class" warships for "Golden Fleet"

Wednesday, December 24, 2025 -The United States has launched a bold and controversial naval expansion with the announcement of a new class of warships dubbed “Trump-class” vessels, designed to anchor an ambitious “Golden Fleet” initiative aimed at reasserting American sea power.

President Trump unveiled the plan as a major upgrade to U.S. naval strength, describing the ships as larger, faster, and more powerful than existing surface combatants, with advanced systems such as hypersonic missile capabilities, next-generation air defense, and high-energy weapons. The program outlines a long-term goal of building dozens of these ships to strengthen U.S. presence across key global waterways.

Supporters argue the initiative will revive domestic shipbuilding, strengthen deterrence against rival powers, and generate economic growth through large-scale defense contracts and manufacturing jobs.

Defense industry confidence has already risen following the announcement, with expectations of sustained investment in shipyards and supply chains. Advocates say the Golden Fleet would provide the U.S. Navy with unmatched firepower and endurance at a time when global maritime competition is intensifying.

Critics, however, warn that the scale and cost of the Trump-class warships could strain defense budgets and divert resources from newer naval strategies that favor smaller, more flexible platforms.

Some defense analysts question whether large surface vessels remain practical in an era of advanced missiles and drones. As design work moves forward and Congress weighs funding decisions, the Golden Fleet proposal is quickly becoming a flashpoint in debates over military priorities, fiscal responsibility, and the future direction of U.S. naval power.
