UK restricts DR Congo visas over migrant return policy

Monday, December 29, 2025 -The United Kingdom has announced restrictions on visas for citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in response to concerns over the country’s migrant return policies. 

UK officials cited challenges in safely and efficiently returning Congolese nationals who do not have legal status in the UK. The move affects new visa applications and raises questions about travel, work, and family reunification for Congolese citizens seeking entry to the UK.

Authorities stress that the restrictions are intended to encourage cooperation between governments on migration management, including ensuring that returns are carried out safely and in accordance with international standards.
