TRUMP's push to end transgender care for young people opposed by pediatricians

Sunday, December 21, 2025 -President Donald Trump is advocating for a nationwide ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth, sparking immediate opposition from major medical organizations.

Pediatricians and child health experts warn that restricting access to medically recommended treatments could harm the physical and mental well-being of young people struggling with gender dysphoria. Leading associations have issued statements emphasizing that evidence-based care, including counseling and, in some cases, hormone therapy, is crucial for the health and development of transgender youth.

Medical professionals highlight that attempts to block these services could increase rates of anxiety, depression, and self-harm among affected children and teens. They argue that policies driven by political agendas, rather than science, risk undermining decades of research on safe and effective care.

Pediatricians stress that decisions regarding gender-affirming treatment should remain between families and qualified medical providers, not be dictated by government mandates.

The debate is intensifying as Trump and his allies push for legal and regulatory changes, while healthcare organizations and advocacy groups mobilize to defend access to care.

Experts warn that the outcome of this conflict could set a nationwide precedent, affecting thousands of families and shaping the standard of care for transgender youth in the coming years. The issue remains a flashpoint in national conversations about health, rights, and the role of government in personal medical decisions.
