Tuesday, December 2, 2025
-Sri Lanka has officially declared the recent cyclone the country’s “largest” disaster in recent history, as the confirmed death toll climbs to 355 and thousands remain displaced.

The cyclone has caused widespread flooding, landslides, and extensive damage to infrastructure, leaving entire communities cut off and in urgent need of humanitarian aid. Authorities are struggling to restore electricity, clean water, and basic medical services in the most affected regions.

The government, along with international aid organizations, has mobilized emergency response teams to deliver food, medical supplies, and temporary shelter to displaced families.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams working around the clock to reach isolated areas. Officials warn that the full extent of the damage may not be known for weeks, as heavy rains continue to hamper relief efforts and disrupt transportation routes.

The impact of the cyclone is severe and long-term. Beyond immediate humanitarian needs, experts are warning of potential economic setbacks, including crop losses, business interruptions, and damage to critical infrastructure.

The disaster underscores Sri Lanka’s vulnerability to climate-related events and highlights the urgent need for strengthened disaster preparedness and resilient infrastructure to mitigate future risks.
