SCHUMER announces health care plan

Friday, December 5, 2025 -
Chuck Schumer this Thursday unveiled a new proposal aimed at preventing a dramatic spike in health‑insurance costs for millions of Americans.

The plan, spearheaded by Senate Democrats, calls for a clean, three‑year extension of the existing premium tax credits under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which otherwise would expire at the end of this year, causing major premium hikes.

Under the proposal, Americans who rely on these tax credits for affordable health coverage would avoid sharp increases in premiums and out‑of‑pocket costs that could otherwise take effect in early 2026.

Schumer made clear this is a direct challenge to Republicans, giving them a choice: support the extension to “bring health care costs down,” or block it and risk forcing families into unaffordable coverage.

With the vote scheduled next week, the pressure is on — the decision could reshape access to affordable care nationwide. If the plan passes, it would offer a crucial short‑term safeguard. If it fails, many Americans face the reality of skyrocketing health‑insurance costs. The stakes are high — and time is running out.
