Friday, December 19, 2025 - American rapper Wiz Khalifa is facing a possible nine-month prison sentence in Romania over a marijuana related offence, though his legal team is seeking to overturn the ruling.
Romania’s Constanța Court of Appeal on Thursday, December
18, upheld an appeal filed by the DIICOT Constanța Territorial Service, a
state prosecutor’s office, which sought a custodial sentence for the rapper.
The ruling replaces an earlier decision that imposed a fine of 3,000 lei, about
700 dollars.
According to sources familiar with the case, the sentence is
not yet final, as Wiz Khalifa’s legal team has begun the process of appealing
the decision in a bid to secure an alternative outcome.
The case stems from an incident in July 2024 when the rapper
was arrested and briefly detained after performing at the Beach Please Festival
in Costinești. During the performance, he was seen smoking marijuana on stage
while dancing to Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg’s song “The Next Episode.”
Romanian authorities later charged him under the country’s
strict drug laws, which criminalise the possession and use of cannabis.
Legal observers note that Romania maintains tough penalties
for drug related offences, making the appeal process potentially challenging.
