New US security strategy aligns with Russia's vision, Moscow says
Monday, December 8, 2025 -Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesperson, said on Sunday that the newly released U.S. national security strategy under Donald J. Trump is “largely consistent” with Russia’s own global outlook.
Officials in Moscow welcomed key parts of the 33-page document, noting its shift away from viewing Russia as a major adversary and toward a posture of dialogue over confrontation.
The U.S. document describes Europe as facing “civilisational erasure” and signals a desire for renewed strategic stability with Russia, rather than immediate escalation.
It also criticizes what it characterizes as over-dependency and rigid regulation within European institutions. According to the Kremlin, such language — and the implied de-emphasis on Russian threat imagery — marks a significant return to a worldview more aligned with Moscow’s own narrative.
In Moscow’s view, this alignment could open the door for more constructive cooperation, especially regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
However, the Kremlin also cautioned that while the strategy outlines a framework for dialogue, successful implementation depends on Washington’s willingness to follow through. Peskov emphasized that past experience merits caution, warning that deeper institutional forces in the U.S. could undermine the stated intent.
