Hundreds of works in the Louvre damaged by flooding

Monday, December 8, 2025 -The Louvre Museum in Paris reported that hundreds of artworks have been damaged after severe flooding affected parts of the iconic institution. 

Emergency teams are working to assess the full extent of the damage and stabilize affected pieces, while some galleries remain closed to the public. Museum officials described the incident as unprecedented and are prioritizing the preservation of irreplaceable works.

Art conservation experts are being deployed to evaluate and restore paintings, sculptures, and historical artifacts impacted by water exposure. While the exact number of damaged pieces is still being determined, early reports indicate that both modern and classical collections have been affected. 

Authorities are also investigating whether recent heavy rainfall and infrastructure vulnerabilities contributed to the flooding.
