HALLE BERRY says GAVIN NEWSOM ‘probably should not be the next president’ after menopause bill veto
Thursday, December 4, 2025 -Halle Berry has sharply criticized California Gov. Gavin Newsom following his decision to veto the Menopause Care Equity Act for a second consecutive year.
Speaking at the New York Times DealBook Summit, Berry condemned what she called Newsom’s disregard for women’s health and accused him of “devaluing” half the population by denying them access to essential menopause‑related care. She argued that such repeated vetoes should disqualify him from consideration in a future presidential race.
Berry — who founded the women’s health platform Respin — emphasized that menopause care is not a niche issue but a widespread public‑health concern.
She pointed out that many women navigating perimenopause or menopause struggle with symptoms that impact their sleep, cognition, and overall well‑being. In her remarks, she highlighted that when women suffer silently, the effects ripple beyond individuals — affecting communities, workplaces, and households alike.
By calling Newsom out on this issue, Berry aimed to spotlight what she sees as systemic neglect of midlife women’s health. Her message was both personal and political: midlife women deserve visibility, dignity, and proper health‑care support — and leaders who take their needs seriously. As she put it, with the way Newsom “overlooked women… by devaluing us in midlife,” he “probably should not be our next president.”
