Fired Michigan coach SHERRONE MOORE detained by police after dismissal

Friday, December 12, 2025 -
In a dramatic turn of events that has stunned the college football world, former University of Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was detained by police just hours after his abrupt firing on Wednesday.

Moore, 39, was taken into custody by the City of Saline Police Department and handed over to the Pittsfield Township Police for an active investigation into an alleged assault, according to law enforcement statements. He remains held at the Washtenaw County Jail pending potential charges, and authorities have indicated the incident “does not appear to be random in nature.”

The firing and detention came on the same day after the university concluded its own internal investigation found “credible evidence” that Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member — a direct violation of university policy.

Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel terminated Moore with cause, meaning the school will not pay out his remaining contract, and swiftly named associate coach Biff Poggi as interim head coach.

With no formal charges yet announced and an arraignment expected in the coming days, the situation continues to unfold with serious implications for the Michigan program.

Moore’s abrupt departure and ongoing police custody raise urgent questions about both legal outcomes and the future stability of a high-profile college football team already gearing up for the Citrus Bowl later this month.
