U.S. House gears up to end longest government shutdown in history

Wednesday, November 12, 2025 -The United States House of Representatives is set to cast its vote today on a pivotal funding package designed to end the longest federal shutdown in U.S. history.

The measure, already approved by the United States Senate in a 60‑40 vote, would reopen the government, resume vital services including food‑assistance programs, restore pay to hundreds of thousands of federal workers, and reinstate air‑traffic control operations that have been crippled by the shutdown.

With a Republican majority of just 219‑213 in the House, unity among GOP members is critical — and backed by Donald Trump. Democrats, however, are strongly opposed because the deal does not extend health‑insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, a key demand of their caucus.

If passed, the bill would fund government operations through January 30, but leave major policy fights unresolved — meaning another showdown looms early next year. The time for action is now: federal workers and service‑recipients alike are watching.
