MACKENZIE SCOTT gives $700 million to historically black colleges

Tuesday, November 18, 2025- Billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has donated $700 million to historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), marking one of the largest gifts in recent history for these institutions. 

The funding is intended to support programs, scholarships, and infrastructure aimed at strengthening educational opportunities for students.

Scott’s donation will benefit more than 20 HBCUs across the United States, providing them with resources to expand academic programs, enhance faculty support, and improve campus facilities. The gift reflects her ongoing focus on equity, education, and systemic change.

University leaders have praised the donation as transformative, noting that it will help level the playing field for students at HBCUs. Experts say contributions of this scale can have long-term effects on student success, institutional growth, and community impact.
