Monday, November 17, 2025 -JPMorgan Chase is asking a court to end its obligation to cover the massive legal fees of Charlie Javice and her co-defendant Olivier Amar, after the two were convicted of defrauding the bank.
The financial institution claims it’s been billed more than US$115 million for their defense — roughly $60.1 million for Javice and $55.2 million for Amar.
In its court filing, JPMorgan describes the billing practices as “patently excessive and egregious.”
It argues that Javice unreasonably retained five different law firms, some of which charged highly inflated rates, and that the overlapping legal teams were clearly duplicative. One law firm allegedly received $35.6 million alone.
Javice hasn’t stayed quiet: her legal team has pushed back, calling JPMorgan’s objections “pure hypocrisy.” She points out that JPMorgan itself has employed dozens of high-priced lawyers through multiple firms — a symmetry she says undermines the bank’s arguments.
