Japan urges China to scale back response in Taiwan row

Sunday, November 16, 2025 -Japan has called on China to de-escalate its recent military and diplomatic actions concerning Taiwan, highlighting the need for stability in the East Asia region.

Japanese officials expressed concern over rising tensions, warning that continued aggressive maneuvers could threaten regional security and disrupt global trade routes.

The statement follows a series of Chinese military exercises near Taiwan, including naval drills and air patrols, which Tokyo described as “provocative.” Japanese authorities emphasized that dialogue and restraint are crucial to prevent misunderstandings that could escalate into open conflict.

Officials also underscored the importance of respecting international norms and the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.

In addition to urging China to scale back, Japan reiterated its commitment to working closely with regional and international partners, including the United States, to support peace and stability in East Asia.

Analysts note that Japan’s message signals both concern over immediate security risks and a long-term strategic approach to deterring further escalation around Taiwan.
