ERIC SWALWELL enters California governor’s race

Friday, November 21, 2025 -Rep. Eric Swalwell has officially entered the 2026 California governor’s race, making the announcement during a high-profile appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He framed his bid as a fight for ordinary Californians — promising to be a “protector and fighter” who will lower costs, improve public safety, and modernize the state.

Swalwell laid out two central goals: first, to shield California from policies he attributes to Donald Trump — “keep the worst president in history out of our homes, out of our streets, and out of our lives,” he said. Second, he wants to build a “new California” focused on affordable housing, job growth, and economic modernization. His message seems aimed at both progressive voters and moderate Democrats who are frustrated with rising costs.

His entry intensifies what’s already shaping up to be a crowded Democratic field. Other high-profile Democrats running include Xavier Becerra, Katie Porter, Tom Steyer, and Tony Thurmond. At the same time, Republicans such as Sheriff Chad Bianco and former Fox News host Steve Hilton are also vying for the governorship. With soaring campaign costs expected, this race could quickly become one of the most expensive in California history.
