Sunday, October 2, 2025-A U.S. federal judge has issued an arrest warrant for former Green Beret Jordan Goudreau after he failed to appear in court to face charges related to his alleged role in a botched attempt to overthrow Venezuela’s government.
Goudreau, who once served in elite U.S. special forces, is accused of organizing a 2020 paramilitary incursion aimed at capturing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
The plot, which collapsed within hours, led to arrests and international embarrassment, but Goudreau has long claimed he acted independently and without U.S. government backing.
The court’s order marks the latest twist in a saga that once played out like a geopolitical thriller. Prosecutors say Goudreau violated federal laws governing military engagement and weapons exports, while defense attorneys have argued that the case has been exaggerated for political reasons.
His absence in court has fueled speculation about his whereabouts, with some reports suggesting he may be overseas and deliberately avoiding U.S. jurisdiction.
Analysts say the renewed focus on Goudreau’s case could reopen uncomfortable questions about America’s role in the region and the blurred lines between private security ventures and state operations.
If arrested, he could face years in prison and renewed scrutiny over the network of former soldiers who participated in the ill-fated Venezuela plot. For now, the man once known for daring missions is wanted not on a battlefield but in a courtroom.
