TRUMP to meet Argentina’s President as U.S. finalizes bailout deal

Wednesday, October 15, 2025-President Donald Trump is set to meet Argentina’s right-wing leader Javier Milei just as Washington moves forward with a major financial bailout for Buenos Aires.

The meeting, billed as “informal,” comes at a sensitive moment for Argentina, which is battling inflation above 200% and mounting social unrest. Analysts say Trump’s involvement could signal his growing influence on U.S.–Latin America relations, even while out of office.

Reaction across both nations is divided. Milei’s supporters see the encounter as a sign of global legitimacy and a potential lifeline for Argentina’s struggling economy.

Critics, however, view it as political theater—an attempt by two populist figures to boost their profiles while institutions handle the hard work of recovery. Financial markets showed cautious optimism but warned that political noise could spook investors.

As Washington presses ahead with bailout conditions through the IMF, Trump’s shadow diplomacy could complicate official negotiations. The line between politics and policy in global finance is once again blurring.
