Released Israeli hostages give accounts of torture, torment and extraordinary danger

Thursday, October 16, 2025-Israeli hostages recently freed from Hamas captivity have revealed harrowing accounts of physical abuse, starvation, and psychological torment during their time in Gaza.

Medical assessments released by Israel’s Health Ministry describe widespread evidence of torture, malnutrition, and untreated injuries among those rescued. Many were held underground in pitch-dark tunnels, confined to spaces barely large enough to sit or lie down, and subjected to constant threats of violence.

Survivors say they were given little food often spoiled or infested and denied medical care even for severe wounds. Some described being moved between locations while blindfolded and hearing executions nearby to instill fear.

Others recounted prolonged periods of silence where even whispering was punished. Doctors report that many freed hostages are suffering from severe infections, dramatic weight loss, and post-traumatic stress symptoms.

Psychologists assisting the survivors say the mental scars may take years to heal. The stories emerging from the released hostages have reignited global outrage and renewed calls for the immediate release of all remaining captives.

Israeli officials have vowed that the testimonies will serve as crucial evidence in documenting what they describe as “systematic acts of terror and human cruelty” carried out during months of captivity.
