Tuesday, October 28, 2025 - South African rapper Shebeshxt, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, is under police investigation for attempted murder after allegedly shooting another motorist during a road rage confrontation in Polokwane. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, 19th October 2025, has sparked outrage among the public and raised concerns about celebrity accountability.
According to reports, the altercation began when Shebeshxt
and another driver clashed over reckless driving on a busy street. The dispute
escalated as both men exchanged heated words from their vehicles. The
confrontation reached a breaking point when the rapper allegedly pulled into a
nearby petrol station, followed by the other motorist. Witnesses say it was
there that the violent encounter unfolded.
A source close to the investigation revealed that the victim
was shot in the upper abdomen and rushed to a local hospital, where he remains
in intensive care. The Westenburg Police Station confirmed that a case of
attempted murder has been opened.
However, controversy deepened when Shebeshxt was briefly
detained and then released shortly afterward. According to insiders, the murder
and robbery unit took over the case from Westenburg Police, saying they would
record statements from both the artist and the victim after preliminary
investigations. This swift release has reportedly infuriated the victim’s
family, who accused the authorities of mishandling the case and demanded the
rapper’s rearrest.
A family source expressed deep frustration, warning that
they might be forced to “take matters into their own hands” if justice is not
served. The insider also suggested that investigators are examining whether
Shebeshxt acted in self-defence and whether the firearm used was legally
registered.
Confirming the ongoing probe, Limpopo police spokesperson
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba stated:
“We confirm that police in Westenburg outside Polokwane are
investigating an attempted murder incident that happened on 19 October 2025 in
Polokwane.”
Ledwaba also revealed that Provincial Commissioner
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has personally directed the specialized murder
and robbery unit to handle the case.
“The police have a person of interest, and when done with
investigations, they will take necessary actions. The investigations have been
intensified, the team is tightening loose ends, and an arrest is imminent
at this stage.”
Authorities have appealed to the public for patience as the
investigation continues, urging everyone to allow law enforcement to complete
their work without interference.
