Man arrested after threatening to shoot up Atlanta airport

Tuesday, October 21, 2025-Authorities in Atlanta have arrested 49-year-old Billy Joe Cagle after he allegedly threatened to carry out a mass shooting at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. Police say Cagle livestreamed his intentions before arriving at the airport armed with an AR-15 rifle and ammunition in his truck.

Family members alerted police after noticing his alarming behavior online, prompting officers to intercept him shortly after he entered the terminal. Investigators recovered 27 rounds of ammunition from his vehicle, preventing what officials described as a “potential tragedy.”

Cagle faces multiple charges, including terroristic threats, possession of a firearm during a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Authorities praised the quick family intervention, saying it highlights how timely reporting can save lives and strengthen community-police cooperation.
