ICE is cracking down on Chicago. Some Chicagoans are fighting back.

Thursday, October 16, 2025-Federal immigration officers have intensified operations across Chicago, leading to hundreds of arrests under a renewed enforcement push. The campaign, known as “Operation Midway Blitz,” has targeted undocumented residents and immigrants with pending removal orders.

However, community groups say many of those detained had no prior criminal history, raising concerns about profiling and fear spreading through immigrant neighborhoods.

Chicago residents are pushing back with organized resistance. Local coalitions such as the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and The Resurrection Project have launched rapid-response networks, legal aid programs, and “know your rights” trainings to protect vulnerable families.

Volunteers on the city’s Northwest Side have even formed neighborhood watch teams that alert communities about ICE presence, aiming to prevent surprise detentions.

Protests have erupted outside facilities like the Broadview Processing Center, where demonstrators have clashed with federal agents in tense standoffs. Civil rights lawyers are challenging the legality of the raids, and a federal court recently reinforced limits on warrantless arrests.

Despite growing public outrage, ICE officials maintain that their actions are lawful and focused on national security, while activists vow to keep defending their neighbors against what they call unjust enforcement tactics.
