Four killed, more than 20 injured in South Carolina bar shooting

Tuesday, October 14, 2025-A deadly mass shooting shattered the quiet of St. Helena Island, South Carolina, early Sunday morning, leaving four people dead and over twenty others injured. The gunfire broke out just after midnight at Willie's Bar and Grill, where a local high school alumni gathering was underway.

Witnesses described a scene of chaos as dozens of patrons fled for cover while deputies rushed in to find multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Authorities confirmed that several of the injured remain in critical condition as hospitals across the region brace for more patients.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and has not yet identified any suspects or a motive. Officials said multiple firearms were recovered from the scene, suggesting the possibility of more than one shooter.

Local leaders, including Representative Nancy Mace, called the attack “devastating” and urged calm as law enforcement works to bring those responsible to justice. The FBI and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are also assisting in the probe, as investigators comb through surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts.

Residents of St. Helena Island, a tight-knit coastal community with deep cultural roots are mourning what many describe as an assault on their sense of safety. Candlelight vigils are being planned as families await word on loved ones still hospitalized.

The shooting marks one of the deadliest acts of gun violence in the state this year, renewing calls for stronger security measures and community-based interventions to prevent future tragedies.
