Thursday, October 23, 2025-Elon Musk has declared his intent to maintain “strong influence” over what he calls Tesla’s emerging “robot army,” as the company accelerates development of its humanoid robot, Optimus.
Speaking at a private investor briefing, Musk outlined his vision for a future in which millions of Tesla robots assist in factories, homes, and even cities effectively creating a new class of autonomous labor powered by artificial intelligence.
The billionaire emphasized that these machines must remain under responsible control, noting that “the integration of robots into society must align with human values and safety.”
Musk’s comments have sparked a wave of both intrigue and alarm. AI ethicists and labor groups warn that the concept of a “robot army” raises concerns about workforce displacement, data privacy, and potential misuse of autonomous systems.
Critics argue that centralizing control under Musk’s direct influence could pose ethical risks, particularly if Tesla’s AI infrastructure becomes too powerful or insufficiently regulated. On social media, supporters hailed Musk’s remarks as visionary, calling him a modern-day innovator pushing humanity toward a post-labor economy, while skeptics described the project as “a tech dystopia in the making.”
Industry analysts say Tesla’s robot division could become one of its most lucrative ventures if successfully commercialized, potentially surpassing the company’s vehicle sales in the coming decade. But regulatory scrutiny looms large.
Governments worldwide are debating how to oversee increasingly capable AI systems that blend robotics, automation, and decision-making. As Musk positions himself at the center of that transformation, his insistence on retaining strong influence suggests that the line between innovation and control may soon become more blurred than ever before.
