18-year-old father arrested for beating 5-month-old son to death

Wednesday, October 8, 2025 - An 18-year-old South African teenager who went on the run after beating his five-month-old son to death has been arrested, police confirmed. The suspect was captured late Monday night after an intensive manhunt.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the teenager had allegedly been assaulting his 19-year-old girlfriend and their baby when the young mother escaped to the Malamulele Police Station to report a case of domestic violence. She told officers that her boyfriend had also physically assaulted their infant several times.

“While reporting the incident, she informed police that the suspect had also physically assaulted their baby several times. Fearing for her safety, the woman fled from the house, leaving the child behind with the suspect,” Ledwaba said.

Police immediately accompanied the woman back to her home, where they were met with a horrific scene. “Upon entering the house, officers made a gruesome discovery of the lifeless body of the infant lying on the floor. Emergency Medical Services were summoned and certified the child dead on the scene,” Ledwaba explained.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the baby had visible injuries on the head and face, indicating that he had been brutally beaten before succumbing to his wounds. The suspect had already fled by the time officers arrived.

Ledwaba added, “The suspect was tracked down and arrested later the same day, at about 10 p.m., after an intensive investigation by the local detectives.”
