MAMDANI slams reports of White House meddling in NYC mayor’s race

Thursday, September 4, 2025 -New York State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani has sharply criticized reports that the White House sought to influence the city’s upcoming mayoral race, calling the alleged interference “an affront to our democracy.”

According to multiple accounts, senior officials in Washington have been in contact with local political figures, fueling speculation that the Biden administration may be working behind the scenes to sway the contest.

The reports have sparked anger among progressives, who see such actions as a betrayal of democratic principles and an effort to undermine grassroots candidates. Mamdani, a prominent left-wing voice in New York politics, argued that voters should be free to decide their next mayor without pressure from national power brokers.

His comments reflect broader frustration among progressive lawmakers who feel their movements are often sidelined by party leadership.

The White House has not publicly addressed the claims, but allies insist there is nothing unusual about federal officials engaging with local leaders. Still, the controversy has added a new layer of tension to an already heated race and could deepen divisions within the Democratic Party.

As the mayoral contest intensifies, questions about transparency, party influence, and democratic integrity are likely to loom even larger.
