Israel calls on famine-stricken residents to flee and targets more high-rises in Gaza City

Tuesday, September 9, 2025 -Israel has urged residents of Gaza City to evacuate as its military expands strikes on high-rise buildings in the densely populated enclave. The call comes amid mounting reports of famine conditions, with humanitarian agencies warning that food shortages and blocked aid deliveries are pushing civilians to the brink.

Israel says its operations are aimed at Hamas infrastructure embedded in urban centers, but the strikes are further intensifying the humanitarian crisis.

The appeal to flee has drawn anguish and anger from Palestinians who say there is nowhere safe to go. Images of families carrying what little they can while searching for shelter spread rapidly online, fueling outrage in the region and beyond.

Aid groups condemned the escalation, saying the destruction of high-rises deepens civilian suffering at a time when hunger and disease are already rampant. Critics argue the evacuation calls are hollow without secure humanitarian corridors.

International reaction has been swift, with the United Nations and several governments pressing Israel to allow more aid into Gaza and to exercise restraint. Analysts warn that the combination of famine and relentless urban bombardment risks triggering further instability across the Middle East.

As the conflict grinds on, the targeting of Gaza’s skyline and the displacement of its most vulnerable residents underscore the increasingly dire toll on civilians.
