Houthi drone strike near Israeli airport disrupts flights

Monday, September 8, 2025 -Israel has confirmed that a drone launched from Yemen by Houthi forces struck near a southern airport, forcing authorities to temporarily halt flights.

The incident marks one of the most direct escalations of the Houthis’ regional campaign, raising alarm over the growing reach of their drone operations. Officials reported no casualties but described the attack as a serious threat to aviation safety and national security.

Public reaction in Israel was immediate, with travelers stranded and residents expressing frustration over the vulnerability of civilian infrastructure.

Social media channels lit up with images of grounded planes, while opposition leaders pressed the government for stronger defense measures. In Yemen, Houthi supporters celebrated the strike as proof of their ability to project power far beyond their borders.

Analysts warn the attack could further destabilize the region by drawing Israel more directly into Middle Eastern conflicts tied to Iran-backed groups.

Aviation experts predict Israel will move quickly to tighten air defenses around its airports, but the incident underscores the difficulty of stopping low-cost drones in modern warfare. The episode may accelerate calls for broader international cooperation against drone threats.
