Thursday, September 18, 2025 -Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has announced his bid for governor in 2026, stepping further into the political spotlight after gaining national attention for resisting Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.
Despite enduring intense backlash, Raffensperger won reelection in 2022 and is now aiming for the state’s top office.
His campaign platform emphasizes core conservative priorities, including eliminating the state income tax, capping property taxes for seniors, restricting gender-affirming care for minors, and removing what he calls “woke curricula” from schools.
He has also pledged cooperation with Trump on issues such as job creation, deportation of undocumented immigrants with criminal records, and law-and-order policies.
Raffensperger faces strong competition in a crowded Republican field, including Trump-endorsed Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and Attorney General Chris Carr.
On the Democratic side, candidates such as Keisha Lance Bottoms and Michael Thurmond are already in the race. With Gov. Brian Kemp term-limited, the contest is expected to be one of the most closely watched gubernatorial battles in the country.
