Wednesday, September 24, 2025 - Neymar has expressed his anger at the 2025 Ballon d’Or results, labeling Raphinha’s fifth-place ranking “an absolute joke.”
The ceremony, held on Monday night, September 22nd at the
Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, saw Ousmane Dembélé crowned with the men’s Ballon
d’Or. The Paris Saint-Germain forward was recognized for his outstanding
season, in which he played a key role in the club's historic campaign, which
included their first-ever Champions League title.
Raphinha also had a strong season with Barcelona, but his
fifth-place finish didn't sit well with Neymar. The former PSG forward took to
social media to voice his frustration, calling the ranking "a joke."
Raphinha, 28, was impressive for the Catalan giants in the
2024-25 season, scoring 38 goals and providing 23 assists across 66 appearances
in all competitions.
His goals contributions helped Barcelona win La Liga, Copa
del Rey and Spanish Super Cup titles.
Neymar’s comment adds to ongoing debates about the fairness
of Ballon d’Or voting, particularly regarding Brazilian players.
Neymar himself finished 9th in 2020, while Vinicius Jr.
finished second in 2024 behind Manchester City star midfielder Rodri, despite
the Brazilian winger’s superb season with Real Madrid, prompting discussions on
perceived biases.
