Friday, August 15, 2025 - A 38-year-old man has been charged with r@ping a 17-year-old boy in Brighton, UK, after allegedly approaching the teenager while he was sitting on a bench.
Police said the incident began when the victim was seated on
a bench in Dyke Road and was approached by a man asking for help to find an
open shop. The teen reportedly assisted him before being taken to an address in
Regent Hill, where the r@pe is alleged to have occurred.
Officers received a report of the assault in the early hours
of Sunday, August 10, and launched an immediate investigation. A short time
later, police arrested a Brazilian man with no fixed address near the Regent
Hill property.
The suspect, identified as Rafael Nascimento, has been
charged with r@pe and appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, where
he was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear in court again on
September 9.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Cobbett, the senior
investigating officer, praised the victim’s bravery in coming forward and said
a dedicated team had been working swiftly to progress all lines of inquiry. He
confirmed that there had been a heightened police presence in the Regent Hill
area as part of the investigation.
Cobbett urged anyone with information to contact police,
stressing that officers were committed to collecting every piece of evidence
and providing reassurance to the community.
