The altered movie poster shows the President’s face
superimposed onto the muscular body of DC’s Man of Steel, alongside the
slogans: “Truth, Justice, and The American Way” and “A Trump Presidency.”
The image dropped on Thursday night, just as the new Superman
film hit cinemas. The parody swaps the original film artwork for a younger,
bulked-up Trump, clad in Superman’s signature red cape and tight blue suit.
It’s the latest in a string of surreal posts from Trump’s
team. In recent months, official accounts have shared an AI-generated image of
Trump as the Pope, as well as an animated video imagining Gaza transformed into
a flashy Trump-branded resort — complete with the president lounging by the
pool with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The Superman meme also landed amid debate over the new film’s
message. Director James Gunn told The Sunday Times that Superman is “the story
of America… an immigrant that came from other places” and about “basic human
kindness.”
That sparked outrage from conservative figures. Fox News host
Laura Ingraham wrote on X: “Another film we won’t be seeing.” Kellyanne Conway
agreed: “We don’t go to the movie theatre to be lectured to.”
Others joined in, including Ben Shapiro and Tim Pool, while
the viral account End Wokeness branded the reboot “woke” and accused Hollywood
of twisting Superman to push an agenda.
Even Dean Cain, who played Superman in the 1990s Lois &
Clark series, weighed in, telling TMZ: “How woke is Hollywood going to make
this character? Why change these classics just to fit the times?
Despite the backlash, the new Superman film is off to a
flying start. It debuted Thursday in select cinemas, earning a 95% audience
score on Rotten Tomatoes, and is expected to pull in over $100 million (£74
million) worldwide in its opening weekend.
